Hyeonchungsa Shrine

충청남도 아산시 염치읍 백암리

Hyeonchungsa shrine is located in the city of Asan and was originally built in the 1700s to commemorate one of the most famous war heroes on Korean history, Admiral Yi Sun-Sin. He was famous for turning the tide of the Imjin war from Japan back to Korea.

The shrine grounds are very large in comparison to other shrines around Korea. The park hours are from 9 am to 6 pm, closed Mondays. Pets are not allowed in.

The shrine encompasses many gorgeous landscapes with various trees, shrubbery, grass fields, and walkways. There are a few different paths from the entrance to the shrine. The path straight up the middle of the park has stairs, but the other two are great options to take in more scenery and for wheelchairs and strollers.

Another great feature of the park is the magnificent koi pond. This is a popular feature as you are able to feed the fish and also take great pictures.

In the spring starting at the end of March and going into April, the park holds a plum blossom festival. As there are many flowering fruit trees throughout the park, this is a prime location for spring photos. Obviously, the shrine is much busier at this time.

Fall at hyeonchungsa

Fall at the shrine is equally as stunning. This is a great location to see Korean architecture mingled with the many colors of autumn.

I have visited this site many times in all seasons and it always impresses me.
