Gongsanseong Fortress
충청남도 공주시 금성동 53-51
The fortress in Gongju dates back to the Baekje kingdom and is a UNESCO work heritage site. It is not pet friendly and not very stroller friendly. There are some walking paths within the fortress that don't require stairs, but to get the best views of the fortress, you will want to walk the fortress wall which has many stairs.
The fortress walls themselves are pathways you can walk along. They span 1.6 miles. There are many stairs and five gates along the wall: Geumseolu, Jinnamlu, Yeongdonglu, Manhalu, and Gongbuglu.
Within the fortress are pathways you can walk and take strollers on. There are bamboo forests, grass lawns, multiple pavilions, and even a Buddhist temple site. Yeongeunsa temple is located just within the Manhalu gate. There are also many sites designated where structures used to be within the fortress.
I first visited Gongsanseong fortress with my coworkers on a bus trip. It was pouring that day all day long, but I still enjoyed the views. We only had an hour to explore the fortress so I have obviously been back a few times since on my own and with my family to enjoy the views of Gongju from the fortress.
